About this document
A birth certificate is the civil status document that appears in almost every file: naturalisation, marriage, residence permit, or enrolment at a university or with an authority abroad. For a marriage in France, the French government’s Service-public website states that a birth certificate issued abroad in a foreign language must be translated by a sworn translator. For naturalisation, every document in a foreign language must be accompanied by its French translation by an approved translator. Send the full copy or the extract the authority asks for, with all its pages and marginal notes, as a clean scan of each full page. For a document in a non-Latin script, give us the spelling of names on your own documents when you order and we will use it. Outside France, an apostille or legalisation may be required: check with the receiving authority.

Frequently asked questions
Does a multilingual extract need to be translated?
Not always. For a naturalisation application, Service-public states that a multilingual birth certificate extract that includes French does not need to be translated for an adult. To present a French certificate in another European Union country, the town hall can attach a multilingual standard form free of charge, which serves as a translation. Otherwise, or if the authority asks for it, a sworn translation is still needed.
Full copy or extract: which one should I have translated?
The one requested by the authority that will receive your file. For naturalisation, Service-public states that a civil status record must be provided as a full copy, in the language of the country of origin, together with its translation. Check the list of documents for your procedure before ordering: the translation covers the document you send.
Will my translation be accepted by the authorities?
Yes, in France. Our sworn translations are recognised by French authorities: prefectures, OFII, ANTS, town halls and courts. Abroad, an apostille or legalisation may be required; check with the body that will receive your file.
How long does it take?
With the standard option, allow up to 5 business days depending on volume. With the express option, the translation is delivered within 48 hours maximum, or even the same day depending on the language.
Will I receive the paper original?
You always receive the signed translation as a PDF by email. The stamped paper copy can be posted as an option, for €10 incl. VAT in mainland France (international postage on request). You can also collect it from our office in Montreuil.
Are my documents protected?
Your documents are covered by professional secrecy (Article 226-13 of the French Criminal Code). Our website and our management software are hosted in France, in compliance with the GDPR, and connections are encrypted.
